TBRS Activities

Prof. R V Hosur and Dr Manu Lopus are involved in evaluating the therapeutic efficacy of gold bhasma in cellular models.

Dr. Dinesh Kumar, Dr. Abhay Narayan Tiwari and other active team members (including Dr. Gaurav Pandey, Dr. Anupam Guleria, Dr. Vikas Agarwal and Prof. M L B Bhatt, President Arogya Bharti) are extensively involved in evaluating the therapeutic efficacy and safety of Swarnaprashana as a curative and preventative medicine for a variety of neurological disorders such as dementia and Parkinsonism.

Dr. Dinesh and his team members (including Dr. Anupam, Dr. Sudipta Saha, Dr. Krishna Mohan Poluri and Prof. Narayan Prasad) are exploring the use of nanomedicines to develop infection resistant peritoneal dialysis (PD) fluid so that the patients suffering from End-stage-renal failure (ESRF) can be catered with a quality life (See the concept Note).

Dr. Gaurav Pandey and his team members (including Dr. Abhay Narayan Tiwari, Dr. Dinesh, and Dr. Sudipta Saha) are involved in evaluating the therapeutic efficacy of probiotics supplemented with turmeric in the treatment of various gastrointestinal diseases such as liver cirrhosis.

Dr. V Karthick (Scientist, Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology) and his team members (including Dr. Dinesh from CBMR, Lucknow) are involved in developing infection-resistant catheters for peritoneal dialysis using multi-walled carbon nanotubes.

Dr. Anupam (from CBMR, Lucknow) and his team members (including Dr. Dinesh, Dr. Krishna Mohan Poluri and Prof. Narayan Prasad) are involved in developing compatible Gadlinium based magnetic nanopartcle systems for various theranostic applications.

Dr. Krishna Mohan Poluri and his team members are extensively involved in studying the Immune regulatory proteins such as cytokines, Growth factors, chemokines and linear sulfated carbohydrate polymers such as glycosaminoglycans (GAGs). These molecules play a major role during leukocyte trafficking, in resolving inflammation and infections. Moreover, these classes of proteins and GAGs are now extensively applied to formulate resorbable polymeric matrices for tissue regeneration. We are assessing the potential role of several flavonoids and their glycosides for their anti-inflammatory and Immunomodulatary properties. Their binding interactions with natural proteins and GAGs are being studied in order them to be considered as nutraceuticals against immune disorders.

Dr. Gaurav Kaithwas and his lab members are involved into evaluating the therapeutic efficacy of natural fatty acids such as Gamma linolenic acid (GLA) and Alpha Linolenic Acid (ALA) against various cancer conditions employing cellular and pre-clinical animal models.

Dr. Subash Chandra Gupta and his Cancer Biology group is exclusively involved in evaluating the anti-cancer activities of natural compounds derived from plant sources such as Premna herbaceaClerodendrum indicumTurmeric  (Curcuma longa and its other tropical varieties). Mainly, his research involves targeting inflammatory pathways in the tumor microenvironment for breast cancer therapy.

Dr. Sandip Chatterjee has keen interest to evaluate the biological activities of various natural compounds extracted from Annona muricata (in India popularly known shul-ram-fal and hanuman fal) owing to its medicinal properties. During his PhD, he has been involved in the total synthesis of (−)-muricatacin (See here) which is obtained from the seeds of Annona muricata and exhibits promising anti-cancer activity (See here).

Dr. Sunil Kumar (from SRMU, Barabanki)  has keen interest to develop novel plant based extracts for eradication of microbial biofilms. Additionally, his research involves developing smart anti-microbial and anti-biofilm agents for patient management in critical care.

Dr. Venkatesh Kumar R and his team members (including Dr. Sudipta Saha and others) are involved in isolation and structure elucidation of biologically active metabolites from plant, fungi, bacteria and insects sources. The identified novel natural compounds are further tested for their biological activities against various pathogenic strains and cancer types. Additionally, he is also working on interdisciplinary areas of Sericulture / Entomology and Natural Products to provide scientific validation for natural products and/or for biological-based organisms to serve as useful materials for the interests of human beings either in terms of nutraceuticals or preparing the novel drug formulations.
